The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
